“If you were going to hurt me, you would have already done it.” She dismissed me with a wave of her hand.
“Don’t be so sure. I may not be Lorenzo or Vitor, but don’t underestimate me.”
“And don’t underestimate me. I may not be here on my own, but I’m still a Cambridge.” She seemed every bit the part at the moment. Her sweet innocent fresh faced expression disappeared and I was greeted with the steely-eyed determination of the vengeance-wielding woman she’d become. She was angry, she was resolute and she had the upper hand, because she knew as well as I did, that I’d let her walk out of there.
Obviously uncomfortable, she began to fasten her blouse struggling with the buttons. Her hands shook. The only outward clue she might not be as confident as she would have me believe.
I walked over to her and took hold of the lapels roughly. Her breasts rose and fell rapidly at my nearness, whether through fear or residual desire, I wasn’t sure. I was shocked to realize that even after all this, I would rather be removing her clothes than helping her put them back on. My head was near-bursting, my senses buzzed. I could smell her. I could still taste her. I still wanted her more than I’d ever wanted anything. I pushed her away from me for a second time. “Go.”
“Go?” She blinked rapidly. “You’re just going to let me leave?”
I picked up her forgotten coat from the floor and handed it to her. My mind flashed back. Could it have only been a few hours ago that I had coaxed her out of it? I’d been so turned on with anticipation. Excitement. How things had changed.
