Fake Fiancé For Christmas
by
Carol Burnside

Blurb

Faced with a broken engagement due to her guarded heart and her  family expecting to meet her fiancé during the first Christmas without her Gran, Lia Taylor decides to take her friends’ advice. She’ll take a fake fiancé home for Christmas.

Ryan Barton grew up in foster homes, unaware he had a family until he met his grandmother at sixteen. Lia’s offer of a noisy family Christmas with a big elaborate meal sounds like heaven, even the part about pretending to be her fiancé.

As Lia and Ryan get to know each other and practice casual touching, hugs, and kisses, their feelings grow. They decide to try for a real relationship with the promise that when either of them withdraws due to old fears, the other will pull them back.

But what will save them when they both withdraw in fear? Are their recent feelings strong enough to save their new relationship or will they hide within the safety of their guarded hearts?

Excerpt

“They’ll expect us to touch.” Lia draped her hand across Ryan’s forearm and his eyes gentled, darkened. “Like this. Casual. Easy. And to hold hands. I hope you don’t mind.”

Ryan turned his arm over and linked his fingers through hers. “We got this.”

She swallowed, unable to tear her gaze off his, and nodded. It felt both foreign and familiar, holding hands with him.

“I think I’m going to like this gig.” He gave her fingers an easy squeeze. “Should we also practice…” His lashes lowered, gaze trained on her mouth. As the fingers of his free hand slid along her jawline, something like static electricity blazed across her skin.

Holy cow. Lia’s pulse bumped and her chest froze, making it difficult to breathe. She parted her lips to answer but couldn’t produce so much as a squeak. After she managed the tiniest of nods, he leaned forward, and his face blurred.

Ryan’s lips touched Lia’s and withdrew. He caught her in mid-gasp the second time and took advantage of her parted lips to flick his tongue against hers, igniting a fire that thawed her chest.

He angled his head and came in for more, tongues teasing, tasting, learning each other. His hands were firm on her back, pulling her closer until she was consumed in the solidness of him and the fire he stoked. She clutched at his shoulders as if they were her lifeline because she was completely engulfed in sensation.

And a choir of angels sang “Hallelujah.”

Ryan chuckled into the kiss, then tore away laughing. Lia scrambled for her phone, the Hallelujah Chorus one she’d assigned to her older brother because he rarely called. When he finally did, she considered it a small miracle. Not so much right now, though. His timing couldn’t be worse.

“What, Spence?” she demanded without preamble. “You’re on speaker.”

“Whoa. Ho, ho, ho to you, too, little sis.”

“Sorry, bad timing. We were…uhm, what’s up?”

“You tell me. My travel app shows your plane came in on time, but we haven’t heard from you. I was elected to find out what the holdup is.”

“Oh. Well, Ryan couldn’t get the same flight, and there was a slight delay, but he’s here now, and we’re about to leave the airport.”

“Right, the fiancé. We can’t wait to meet this guy and size him up.”

“Very funny. Best behavior today, and I mean it, Spence. So help me—” Lia looked over a sea of autos, anywhere but at Ryan.

“Kidding. Damn, girl, where’s your sense of humor?”

“Buried under travel stress. Hey, how’s Mom holding up?” Lia kept her brother on the line to delay renewed mortification over the kiss.

“Oh, you know.” There was a slight pause, and Spence’s voice quieted as if he’d moved out of earshot. “She’s…trying, but the tree isn’t decorated.”

“What?” Lia couldn’t believe it. She pressed her lips together. Ever since Spence had gone to college, her mom made a point of having the tree ready to welcome them home at Christmas.

“She said we’ll all do it together, and it’ll make Brian feel more at home. Having y’all here will help.”

“It’s Ryan. Geriatric brain, much?”

“I could’ve sworn Mom said Brian, but the TV was blaring. Oh, well. Hang up and drive, girl. We’re waiting, and hey, save me a hug.”

“Back at ya. Bye.” Lia returned the cell to her purse, taking extra care to stow it properly.

“Sounds like you deflected the name change deftly.” Ryan buckled his seatbelt.

Lia clicked hers into the slot, relieved to talk about any subject but their scorching-hot kiss. “Yeah, but I think it’ll be fine since your names are similar. Brian, Ryan. Easy to brush it off as ‘Oh, you misunderstood.’”

“Good.”

Silence fell between them. Lia found a radio station and slipped the gearshift into reverse. “Okay, let’s do this.”

New Release and Guest Post - Once Upon a Blizzard - by Lisabet Sarai @LisabetSarai #secondchance #mmf #bisexual #holidayromance

 Old Flames

For most of us, high school is a time of sexual awakening. With all the hormones pouring into our blood, we’re in a near-constant state of excitement. I don’t know how kids are now, but during my high school years, my “sexual” experiences were limited to some steamy kisses and groping. Still, everyone around me seemed to have a heightened awareness of desire, although we knew very little about the details. Flirtation, teasing, crushes, fantasies, conspiracies – every interaction felt edged with erotic possibilities, even if most of these never materialized.

I remember that period with aching affection. In later years, when I’ve reconnected with some of my old flames, I’ve found the original heat still simmered in the background. Most of us are married now, some more than once. There’s no chance of consummating the old adolescent lust, even if it were reciprocal. But somehow, for me at least, the original thrill hasn’t totally dissipated.

Once Upon a Blizzard was loosely inspired by actual relationships from my high school years. As described in the story, there was in fact a triangle involving me and two of my male classmates  (though I’m pretty sure that they didn’t have any homoerotic connection). For a time, I was the girlfriend of the taller, more popular, more alpha of the two guys, but I’ve often thought I might have made the wrong choice – especially after he dumped me, exactly as described in the book.

Writing this second-chance romance gave me the opportunity to imagine what might have happened between the beta guy and me, if we’d had the chance to revisit our old connection.

No electricity. No water. Plenty of heat.

Suzanne and Gino have a history going back to high school, but for more than a decade the workaholic CEO has been thousands of miles from her New England home town.

A mistletoe kiss at a Christmas party rekindles the old spark and Suzanne finds some things do indeed get better with age. When Gino rescues her from a blizzard, though, she discovers that she's not the only love in his life. Gino shares his bed and his colonial-era farm house with taciturn painter Harris Steele.

Snowed in with two lusty men who truly seem to care, she wonders why she’s so determined to return to her lonely West Coast life. Is there really a chance for a holiday happy ending?

X-rated Excerpt (MMF)

Harris urged Gino onto his hands and knees, crosswise on the king-sized bed. Kneeling behind, he pulled the globes of Gino’s butt apart and wiggled his fingers back into the hole between them. “Still loose and juicy,” he commented.

Oh, yeah,” breathed Gino. “Take me, lover.”

Harris stroked his cock a few times then placed the knob against stretched ring of muscle and pushed. He held Gino open so that Suzanne could see the rigid length of flesh disappearing inch by inch into Gino’s back passage.

Oh, God!” Gino gasped as Harris filled him.

Oh God!” echoed Suzanne, as her pussy clenched and her rear hole twitched with sympathetic pleasure.

Harris grasped Gino’s hips and pumped his cock in and out. Gino relaxed and let Harris take him over. Gino’s swollen cock jutted underneath him, bouncing against his belly each time Harris thrust into his ass. Suzanne ached to feel that bulk inside her. But she was the guest here—this was Harris’ turf and she had to let him call the shots.

She slipped two fingers into her wet sex, hoping that the men wouldn’t mind, and frigged herself in time with Harris’ strokes. As Harris picked up speed, she did also, skirting close to the edge of climax. Then she backed off. She wanted to come with Gino inside her. She only hoped she’d get the chance soon.

Harris paused as if he had read her mind. He shifted position, kneeling back onto his heels and dragging Gino, still impaled, onto his lap. Gino’s thighs splayed out on either side of his lover’s. His erection pointed straight at the ceiling.

Climb on,” Harris instructed. “We’ll see if he can handle both of us.”

Suzanne didn’t need a second invitation. She clambered over to their joined bodies, squatted above Gino’s tempting bulk and settled down, swallowing him with her pussy.

Gino gasped as her heat enfolded him. He grabbed her shoulders, pulling her into a frantic kiss. Meanwhile, Harris flexed his thighs and drove his cock up into Gino’s ass. The force sent Gino’s rod deeper into Suzanne’s body. Suzanne rocked in Gino’s lap, her hands on his shoulders, her feet braced against Harris’ thighs. The blond man didn’t seem to mind. He just picked up the pace, ramming hard and fast into Gino’s body and sending Gino’s cock careening into her body in reaction.

Gino looked dazed. His lips were parted, hoarse breath forced out with each thrust. His hair was plastered on his sweaty forehead. Harris clasped him around the waist with strong, wiry arms. Every so often Suzanne felt the artist’s long fingers circle the base of Gino’s cock and give it a squeeze, brushing her cunt lips in the process and sending high voltage sizzling up her spine.

New Release & Guest Post by Adriana Kraft - A Reluctant Santa @AdrianaKraft #eroticromance #holidaystory #midlifeheroine

I'm delighted to welcome back the dynamic duo that is Adriana Kraft to the blog today, with a sneak peek to a new and exciting holiday story—A Reluctant Santa—a festive, erotic romance with a mature heroine! Take it away, Adriana...

Guest Post

Adriana Kraft A Reluctant Santa

I’m dreaming…of a white Christmas. Where did you grow up? In my childhood in northern Virginia, I can’t remember a single white Christmas. It wasn’t until I moved to Chicago in my early twenties that snow on Christmas became a reality—and then some.

I’ve always loved the first snow of the season. Some places I’ve lived, that came as early as Halloween – requiring inventive solutions to the kids’ costumes. Often by the time Christmas rolled around, the snow piles were grey and ugly, and more snow wasn’t welcome. Sometimes snow even interfered with the holidays. When my husband and I lived even farther north, in the upper reaches of Minnesota, we made a practice of not driving anywhere at night if temperatures were worse than twenty below zero. That prevented at least one Christmas Eve outing I can remember.

Fast forward to our move to the southwest, about ten years ago. The first few years, we lived and traveled in our motor home, and I still remember my reaction the first time we took an early December evening walk in the balmy temperatures among the palm trees and saw people putting up Christmas lights. Not a combination I’d ever thought about, and it took some getting used to. By now, of course, I’ve settled into it and we put up outdoor lights and a pair of lighted tiny reindeer (both with red noses) every December.

BUT when our publisher put out a call for warm fuzzy holiday stories and we had to decide on a setting, no way were we going to deal with warm weather. We set this story in one of our fave old haunts, the Lake Como area of St. Paul, MN, where there is definitely a LOT of winter. My own Minnesota memories have to do with chopping ice dams off the roof, but instead we sent our couple ice skating, and then on a trip even farther north, where there’s some great cross-country skiing, plus a Christmas Eve memory straight out of our past.

We hope our readers enjoy this short story as much as we did writing it. Our two fifty-year-old characters may seem a tad curmudgeonly at the start, but we warmed up to them, and for sure they went on to heat things up, big time.

REVIEWS

Loved it

This was a fun book with a great storyline. Carol and Cliff had super hot chemistry that made this even better. They made for a steamy story. It's a definite must read.

A Christmas cracker

A short, sweet and sexy Xmas romance that will bring festive hope to all the over 50's – love and a fulfilling sex life are not just for the younger generation.

Set Up: Carol’s best friend, Sue, has invited them both for lunch…

“Damn!” Sue looked at Carol, then at Cliff. “Sorry, I have to run. There’s a crisis at work that apparently only I can solve. Enjoy your lunch. My treat.”

Carol shook her head as Sue scurried off, thrust a handful of bills at the cashier, and exited the restaurant.

Cliff’s soft chuckle redirected her attention. His short salt and pepper beard framed an inquisitive smile.

“I’m surprised Sue stayed as long as she did. You’ve known her much longer than I have. Is she always so obvious?”

“That’s Sue.” Carol absently brushed hair away from her eye. “What you see is what you get. A big heart, and too often more than a bit pushy. But the truest, dearest friend I’ve ever had.”

Cliff nodded. “That’s special. She left before the waiter came back to take our orders. Wonder how much she paid them! Do you want to stay? I don’t know about you, but I’m hungry.” He gave her a sheepish smile. “Besides, sharing a meal that’s already been paid for with an attractive woman who seems as skeptical about this process as me might be an opportunity not to be missed.”

Carol’s breath caught—but she didn’t want to look that interested. She shrugged. “Why not? So you don’t do the so-called blind date adventure often?”

“Never. Until Sue twisted my arm so hard I thought it would break. By the way, I should add, I’m not disappointed I came. You do seem intriguing, and what is there to lose? We have a free meal to share, and who knows what we might discover.

“Sure. We can always walk away and say nice meeting you, have a good day.”

Chapter One

I’m busy minding my own business, clearing up litter in a field on the outskirts of Hartington when what can only be described as a crazy woman appears, seemingly from nowhere. She’s all wild-eyed, and her blonde hair looks damp. Her outfit is unremarkable, except for the fact she’s got nothing on her feet. Bright red toenails seem massively out of place in this rural village. She seems out of place. I’m not sure why I think this, but somehow, she just doesn’t appear to belong. So what the hell is she doing here?

Normally, I steer clear of other folk unless it’s absolutely necessary, but this woman looks like she needs help. If she’s crossed the road with her feet like that, then they’re going to be scratched to buggery, maybe even cut.

Taking a deep breath, I chuck the empty crisp packet I’ve been holding into my rubbish bag. Then I place it next to the tree I’m standing beside and step out into the woman’s path. I’m used to people not seeing me—or behaving like they haven’t seen me, anyway—so I’m not surprised when she lets out a shriek that could wake the dead and freezes in front of me.

Hey, hey,” I say gently, holding my hands up placatingly. “It’s okay. I’m not going to hurt you. I just wanted to come and see if you were all right. I can’t help but notice you’re not wearing any shoes. You’re not hurt, are you?” If this chick is so desperate to get away that she’s gone without shoes, then something’s wrong. Seriously wrong.

I look around, half-expecting to see an angry husband chasing after her, or maybe even a shopkeeper. She could be a thief. Glancing at her again, I realise that can’t possibly be the case, unless she’s stolen something invisible. All she has are the clothes on her back.

She still hasn’t spoken, so I try again, attempting to make myself appear friendly, welcoming. Not an easy thing when you’re over six feet tall and pretty wide, too. Also, the tattoos, and the fact I haven’t had a change of clothes, shave, or a haircut for a while don’t help. I wouldn’t blame her if she ran away, to be honest. I must look a fright, but I haven’t peered into a mirror—or even a window—for a good few days, so I can’t be sure.

“Please answer me. Are you hurt? Is there someone after you?”

She looks around, then back at me. Shakes her head. I’m confused—if there’s no one after her, why did she look behind her?

I crouch down. “Are your feet okay? Cut?”

Finally, I get a verbal reply. “N-no. I mean, yes. They’re okay. Not cut. At least… I don’t think so.”

She lifts each foot in turn, checks the soles. So do I. They’re fine. Now she’s answered another of my questions, too. Her accent doesn’t sound local. More like southern England. London, perhaps.

I suppress an involuntary shudder. The thought of London, the big, dirty, smoky city, does not impress me. Horrible bloody place. But at least it explains why the blonde doesn’t fit in. She’s not from around here.

Naturally, I still have a million and one questions, but I don’t know how to ask them without bombarding or intimidating her. Not to mention that really, I have no right to know the answers. I’m a total stranger. But there’s something about her, about her appearance—and I don’t just mean the lack of footwear—that makes me want to help her. Or at least get her back where she came from, which is clearly somewhere in the village. She certainly hasn’t come far, as otherwise her feet would be filthy and bleeding.

What the hell is she doing here?
